|The Black Earth Public Library serves the
people of the community by providing materials and services which meet their
information, education and recreational needs. The library is open 39 hours per
week and is staffed by one full time Librarian and two part-time assistants.
Library hours are:
Monday - Friday 10:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. and 2:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. Saturday
10:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M.
The Library Board is governed by a five member Board of Trustees. The Board is
comprised of representatives from: the village, school district and village
The library is a member of the South Central Library System and also receives
assistance and guidance from the Dane County Library Service.
Approximately 12,000 non-fiction and fiction volumes are contained in the
library collection. The library also offers access to magazines, newspapers,
videos, compact discs, and books-on-tape. Patrons also have access to
* LINK: The library is a member of a consortium of
49 automated libraries known as LINK (Library Interchange Network). LINK
affords patrons access to millions of items owned by members libraries. Via
terminals in the library, patrons can peruse the holding of LINK libraries,
select materials and have them sent directly to the Black Earth Library for
pick-up. Patrons are notified by "Harry" the automated calling system
when items are in.
* IAC: Patrons can access thousands of magazine
articles throughout a periodical database know as Information Access (IAC).
Articles can be printed at the library or e-mailed to personal e-mail accounts.
* PC: The following stations are available for patron use.
* Word Processing
* Internet access and connection to Dane County JobNet
* Educational and recreational programs
* Storytime: The library offers preschool
storytime throughout the year. Storytime sessions are usually thematic.
Schedules are available at the library.
* Summer Library Program: The Summer library program is held during the
summer months with a reading incentive program continuing through the summer.
* National Library Week: National Library Week is
celebrated in April.
* National Children's Book Week: This special week
is held in November. Various contests and actives are planned for kids.
